On January 16th Rizzoli Bookstore's newish NoMad location hosted the launch of Shooting War, Anthony Feinstein's penetrating book about what motivates photographers to document conflicts around the world, the psychiatry of war photography, and the toll it can all take on journalists and photojournalists. Sir Harold Evans, who wrote the Foreword to the book and is himself an extraordinarily accomplished journalist and the editor-at-large of Reuters, interviewed Anthony about his insights from interviewing eighteen conflict photographers in the book, and his long career studying PTSD in journalists returning from war zones. We drew a wonderful crowd, including many journalists, and the Q&A that followed the discussion was robust. The next day, Anthony and I met at a west side bar and raised a glass of Laphroaig scotch to our partnership, and his hustle.
Also, if you missed the wonderful NYT review of Shooting War in December, written by the British/Canadian photographer Finbarr O’Reilly, definitely give it a read, here. The book is picking up a lot of publicity in both the U.S. and Canada, from WNYC to The Globe and Mail.
Thank you to everyone who came out to Rizzoli!
